NaBloPoMo 2020: Blogging From My Soul

NaBloPoMo 2020: Blogging From My Soul

Usually around this time, I’m preparing to dive into the #NaNoWriMo trenches – committing myself to writing fifty thousand words in thirty days. The first year I ever attempted NaNo resulted in my first novel, igniting my career as an author. I am forever grateful that the global event kicked off what would result in my writing a total of twelve novels in less than six years.

That said, you couldn’t pay me to pen a novel right now.

Is there another romance novel or erotic short in me? Perhaps.
Fuck, I hope so because I enjoy writing about love and orgasms.
Clearly.

But I’ve accepted that Spirit is guiding my creative journey in a more non-fictional ‘based on a true hot mess’ direction right now. I’ve been on this blog talking about everything from my career change at forty to documenting my sober journey. Right here is where the words flow freely for me, so I want to honor that while still participating in the November writing madness with my fellow artists.

Enter: #NaBloPoMo – National Blog Posting Month:

A little background: In 2006, veteran blogger Eden Kennedy created NaBloPoMo after failing to hit the 50K word goal during NaNoWriMo the previous year. In 2010, the woman-centered blogging collective BlogHer purchased NaBloPoMo from Kennedy and hosted the contest annually until 2016. These days, online searches for NaBloPoMo produce few active links.

This unfortunate circumstance is a silver lining for me, as it will give me a chance to create my own NaBloPoMo challenge – and all I need is a deck of cards.

These cards, specifically:

I’ve owned the Empowering Questions deck for a couple of years now, using it as the occasional journal prompt or as a center card in a tarot spread whenever I needed divination inspiration. To that accord, during the month of November, I’ll be using the cards to prompt my thirty consecutive days of blog entries.

And these cards are NOT softball questions by any means. To be honest, I’m a little scared to move forward with this blogging challenge using this deck. These questions will crack you right open…but I could use a little cracking open these days.

Curious about what each day’s prompt will be? Wanna join me on this shadow work journey with either your blog or your private journal?

Keep reading, because I’m going to shuffle and draw each of the thirty days’ cards right now.

Like…RIGHT. NOW.

Day 1: If I didn’t feel shame or fear, what would I do now?
Day 2: If this was my last day, would I be satisfied with my life?
Day 3: How would I like people to remember me when I am no longer here?
Day 4: What if everything is as it should be? How would that make me feel?
Day 5: What kinds of situations do I avoid?
Day 6: What is my worst fear?
Day 7: How would I want to be encouraged right now?
Day 8: Why am I doing the things I am doing right now?
Day 9: What gives me great joy?
Day 10: What are my most important values?
Day 11: What am I thankful for today?
Day 12: What is my biggest dream?
Day 13: What or who am I beneath all my roles?
Day 14: What kinds of feelings am I feeling right now?
Day 15: What is the worst that could happen if I let go of things that no longer serve me?
Day 16: What have been the most defining moments that have helped shape my life?
Day 17: What does ‘being’ mean to me?
Day 18: What fascinates me so much that the thought of it won’t leave me alone?
Day 19: What are my best qualities?
Day 20: Where am I going and why?
Day 21: What does happiness mean to me?
Day 22: What is my life like when it is in balance?
Day 23: How or in what way do I experience myself when I’m alone?
Day 24: What kind of advice on life would I give my younger self?
Day 25: What kinds of routines/habits limit my experience of everyday life?
Day 26: What is my instinct telling me to do?
Day 27: What is my gift to the world?
Day 28: Am I focusing more on what my life looks like than on what it feels like?
Day 29: What kinds of recurring situations or people do I attract?
Day 30: Is there something in my life that makes me forget time while I’m doing it?

Let me know in the comments if you plan to journal or blog along with me in November. This will be good for me, that’s what Spirit is telling me.

And that wacky bitch is rarely wrong.
See you on November 1st!

  1. I’m doing NoBloPoMo in November and obviously you’re going to be doing it this year. I’m trying to build a list of bloggers that are doing this challenge. I’m going to add your blog to my master list of NaBloPoMo Bloggers.
