#YogaEveryDamnDay – Day 17: The Morning (Yoga) After

Boy, what an intense 36 hours…but I am back!

Being sick is the pits but I’m beginning to realize that minor illnesses can be the Universe’s way of making us slow down and rest. I’ve stated in previous posts that the inclination to do nothing doesn’t come easy for me, but I gave it my best shot yesterday. After leaving work, I settled on my couch, turned on a movie, and fell asleep shortly thereafter. And that’s it! I didn’t answer emails or binge social media. I just let myself be, allowing my body to recover from whatever was attacking it. Again, such a simple task but it doesn’t come so easily for me. I had to literally be doubled over in pain before I realized I needed to sit my ass down. Hate that for me, but I’m (still) learning how to rest. Let’s hope my next lesson isn’t so painful.

Now, on to today’s practice:

The Instructor: Arianna Elizabeth
The Practice: AM Power Flow (45 mins)

I woke up at 7am in much better condition than the previous morning. I’ll count that as a win! I decided to treat myself to a vinyasa flow to loosen my body from the stiffness of resting the previous day. This practice is on the intermediate level, but Arianna offers many modifications – some of which I took full advantage of. For example, I didn’t attempt the Wheel Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana), opting instead to do a supported standing backbend (Anuvittasana). I also remained seated on a yoga block during Hero Pose (Virasana). At the end of the 45-minute practice, I felt more like myself, even with a lingering ache in my lower abdomen. Slowly but surely, I’ll get back to 100%. Guess resting isn’t too bad after all!

See you on the mat tomorrow!
